ACTIVITY 1: Create a “Perfect Pairing” of Fiction and Nonfiction Text Around Black History Month

Connect elementary and middle level students to the civil rights movement with engaging historical fiction.

ACTIVITY 2: Piece Together an Important Figure

Explore an influential leader in K-12 classrooms during Black History Month, using multi-media resources. Students can even create a social-media style profile that their figure would have used to speak to the world about their big ideas or contributions if they were able to today.

ACTIVITY 3: Build civic engagement

Ask high level students to research movements throughout history and then choose a cause to champion today. How would students spread their message?
